Exhibitions News

To mark the centenary of the outbreak of World War1 the Garw Valley Heritage Society will be holding a series of exhibitions between the end of April and the end of October. The exhibition will show posters, maps, banners, and photographs, as well as artefacts from the battlefields and letters written by Garw soldiers from the trenches. It will also show a Roll of Honour which has been painstakingly researched to give an up-to-date list of all those Garw men who went to the war, and never returned.

There will be a booklet accompanying the exhibition, which as well as containing the Roll of Honour, will give biographical details of some of the men who went, the hardships they endured, and the medals they won. It will also give some idea of life in the Garw throughout the 1914-1918 years.
The first exhibition will be held at Betws Life Centre starting lunchtime Wednesday April 30th, through to 4.30 on Friday 2nd May (please note the date on the poster below is wrong!)

Other dates will be:

Bryngarw House, 24-26 May
Braich-y-Cymer pub 12-14 June
Pontycymer Community Centre 9-11 July
Richard Price Centre 24-26 September
Blaengarw Hall 15-17 October

All times 10.30- 4.30, free admission.

Posters with these details will be placed in prominent places around the valley throughout the Spring and Summer.
