Treboeth Heritage Society’s Calon Lan walk

On Wednesday June 20th, the G.V.H.S. played hosts to the Treboeth Heritage Society (Swansea). A coach party of 51 visitors came to explore and take a guided tour of Blaengarw, following in the footsteps of one of their own local heroes: the bard Daniel James, writer of Calon Lan.

Arriving at 10:45am, and after stopping for light refreshment at the Creation cafe, interested groups were taken on the Calon Lan walk. This walk took in sites of interest in the poets life whilst he lived in Blaengarw. The walk was guided and narrated by a G.V.H.S. member using photographs from our archives to illustrate how the area would have looked in Daniel James’ day. This was well recieved by the visitors, who marvelled at the changes in the landscape. We had wonderful weather for this event which really showed off Blaengarw at its best. Calon Lan park (where the tour ended) was looking particularily beautiful and very clean. This is a credit to the local neighborhood who take great pride in this amenity. Our thanks also go to David Pugh who assisted in organising this event.

  1. I wonder if the Treboeth Heritage Society were given the opportunity to view the copy of TB Richards music for Calon Lan and see the alternative chorus to the one we know today. This was sent on a CD to the GVHS.
