1927 School Pupil’s Poem, “River”

Here is a poem by Ffaldau School pupil written in 1927 about the Garw River. Edna Pritchard was in Form 1VB.

Oh! List, thou black and sluggish stream, When now I think of thee I scream
Can any call thee “River ” ?
Daily to the sea thou crawlest, And my low’ring heart thou gallest
Can any call thee “River ” ?
Gathering pots and cans and tins, Enough to fill a thousand bins
Can any call thee “River ” ?
Oh! List to me, thou black and sluggish stream, When now I think of thee I scream.
Can any call thee ” River ” ?

Does anyone know Edna Pritchard or any of her family?
