Overview of the Year

Well what a busy year this has been for our Society. As well as attending local shows such as Llangeinor & Braich y cymmer fetes which we all enjoy, our members have once again taken part in the Bridgend Heritage’Open Door’ events with the Dr. Richard Price walk and the increasingly popular Calon Lan
walk.
At the beginning of October we took part in the first ever St Cein’s walk which went very well and ended in a short talk in St Cein’s church. All these events boost people’s level of interest in our area and serve us well in attracting tourists to our valley by educating them in our industrial past and introducing them to our greener future.
We have also been active in the local schools, taking part with the
children in ‘heritage walks’ throughout the year.
One of the more interesting tasks this year was a field walk with the architect of the Braich y cymmer pathway which is still under construction. This involved a day spent tramping the mountainside in the infamous horizontal rain that only the Garw ecosystem produces.
The society has also been instrumental in advising the newly formed Bridgend County Heritage website on subject matter regarding the valley, and in a another day long event we recorded some of our local hero stories digitally which will be hopefully available on this website soon.
All in all a pretty busy but successful year.
